Kelly News

Announcing ALL THE THINGS:

There will be at least two more Blade books after Blade Reforged, which comes out in June. The new books should be out around Dec 2014, and June 2015 respectively.

I’ll also be writing my first YA novel this year: School for Sidekicks: The Totally Secret Origin of Foxman Jr. which will be coming out from Feiwel and Friends (Macmillan) probably summer 2014.

Finally, I’ll be a keynote speaker at the Literary and Fine Arts Festival in the Charlotte NC area, in early April as a guest of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. My sessions will be Thursday morning, April 11, 2013. Session 1: 10am to 10:50am, Session 2: 11:00 to 11:50am.

Crossed Blades Launch Day

So, I have a new book out today. It’s called Crossed Blades and it’s the third of the Fallen Blade books, though it’s intended to be read either on its own or as part of the series. I think it’s the best one so far, and I’m really pleased with it. But I’m the author, and that means I’m biased. If you’d like to read a sample chapter, you can find one here. The first review is over here. If you want a signed copy, you can order them via Uncle Hugo’s. It can also be found at all the usual places, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Indiebound, etc.

I will be out and about in the Twin Cities reading and signing. Nov 29th, 7:00 pm, I will be having a reading and signing at the Har Mar Barnes and Noble in Roseville MN. On Dec 1st, 1:00 pm, I shall be at Uncle Hugos in Minneapolis signing books with the wonderful Kelly Barnhill. Yep, that’s right, two Kellys for one low price.

Signed Books

With the holidays coming up, it occurs to me that you might want to find signed copies of my books as gifts. Should that be the case, they can usually be found mail order on my page at Uncle Hugo’s. And, if I happen to be doing a signing there, as I am on December 1st, you can also put in a special request for personalized signatures, and they can often make accommodations.

Five Writing Things Make A Post

I’m pretty sure these are all official enough to announce at this point. There’s more writing news hovering on the edge of announceable, since I have lots of writing balls in the air at the moment, but this is what looks solid and not seekrit enough to go out into the world as of this morning.

1) Broken Blade came in as first runner up for the Locus paperback best seller list for March, which is the closest I’ve ever gotten and very exciting. It’s mentioned down in the 2nd paragraph below the actual lists  If only it went to eleven…

2) There will be at least one more book in the Fallen Blade series, bringing it to four. It’s currently titled Blade Reforged, and should be out summer 2013, around six months after Crossed Blades hits shelves in Nov/Dec 2012. Woohoo!

3) I just made my first foreign rights sale. The first three books in the Fallen Blade series will be coming out in German. I am VERY excited about this.

4) Bared Blade galleys arrived this week. It’s starting to look like a book.

5) Finally, a while back I got the cover art for the second book in the Fallen Blade series, and I LOVE it. John Jude Palencar again, and amazing work. I’m putting it down here at the bottom so you can see it large, because it is gorgeous.

Bared Blade Cover Art

Broken Blade: it’s a real book now, with sequels and everything.

I appear to have written another book. Well, the writing part was actually finished almost a year ago, but the bit where the world sees it starts today. It’s called Broken Blade and its got assassins and sorcerers and swordfights and something very like zombies. Hopefully, you will all like it and want to share it with your friends, families, pets, and random people off the street. You can read the first chapter of it here: Broken Blade.

I really don’t have a lot more to say about the book at this point in time. Once it’s printed and bound and all of those things, a book more or less has to speak for itself and I’m going to let it, though you can hear me talking about a variety of things with Anton Strout at his latest Once and Future podcast, recorded on Sunday.

I mentioned sequels, didn’t I? While readers are just getting their first real chance to see the book for themselves, I’ve been busily working on the next one. Two actually. Tomorrow, or possibly later today, I will be hitting send on the email that will put the third book, Crossed Blades, in my editor’s in-box so that I can start worrying about whether she will like it. But wait, what about the second book?

Bared Blade is actually already available for preorder at places like Barnes and Noble and Amazon. While I’m being commercial, I should probably also post the links for ordering Broken Blade directly from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or Indiebound (various independents) should you be so inclined.

The website is new as well. For which, many thanks to Ben Zvan. Feel free to poke around and kick the tires and the like. While I’m thanking people, the following individuals all got special thanks in the book and should probably be thanked again here, Laura McCullough, Jack Byrne, Anne Sowards, my mapmaker Matt Kuchta, and Neil Gaiman for the loan of the dogs.

One final note. If you’re viewing this on November 29th, and you happen to be in the Minneapolis/St Paul area, I’ll be reading bits of the book at the Har Mar Barnes and Noble tonight at 7:00, as well as making a few other appearances later in the week.

Broken Blade, meet world. World, meet book.
